Ok, the OpenSolaris 2008.05 installation worked great, no problems with the actual installation whatsoever....
however, during installation I did not have a choice of where to install grub -- this is a severe problem. I installed OpenSolaris on my second HDD, my first has another OS on it that I need to keep running. My second HDD is obviously plugged in as a slave hdd and not master. to make matters worse, it wont boot from the opensolaris grub installation because I was previously running linux, and there is a grub installation on the MBR that trys to boot up if I let the computer start on its own. because of the lack of control over grub, the installer put GRUB on my second HDD instead of overwriting the old installation of grub. right now I can access my OS(s) only because my bios has its own bootloader, and by holding F10 at startup I can choose which HD to boot from.... however this is hardly a good fix. I need to remove grub from my second hard drive, and reinstall it on the MBR of my pc. I'd really appreciate any help. This message posted from opensolaris.org
