if you are booting from a dvd, try to edit under the grub with the "e" key and add at the end of the line that says boot and ad on the boot kernel option -v is verbose the opton -r is to rebuild the /devices tree, the -as will boot into single user mode. OpenSolaris since snv55 or so uses this to boot with verbose on the kernel boot after the CD install options I did not incude it, was not handy add the -v option. kernel$ /platform/i86pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix -v vs, Solaris 10 still uses this: kernel /platform/i86pc/multiboot -v Also in your bios the power management can sometimes be a issue , try to disable it, and the another one is the sata drives use ide emulation mode.
