Hi,
I'm running into an issue with the rge driver, and am wondering if anyone has
any suggestions on what to do. I've tried on 2 different builds, with 2
slightly different results. My test is to copy 30 gigs of files to a zfs backed
nfs share running on this machine. On 2008.11, the transfer dies between 10 and
15 gig. On build 106, the transfer will sometimes finish successfully, or
sometimes die after 25 gig or so being transferred. When the transfer hangs the
card drops off the network, When I ping this card, I get no response. I can
still connect to a second card in this machine without a problem. If I unplug
and plug the network cable, I see the appropriate messages in dmesg (link down,
link up). If I snoop on the card, I only see the machine sending arp requests.
I can cause the card to come back to life unplumbing and plumbing the card
(just doing down/up doesn't work), but if I restart the transfer, the speed is
significantly slower. I've tried with and without set ip:dohwcksum = 0 in the
/etc/system file. Here are the card details from scanpci:
pci bus 0x0002 cardnum 0x00 function 0x00: vendor 0x10ec device 0x8168
Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet
controller

The motherboard is a Asus P5QL and this network card is built-in.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
-Rob
