Huh?

It should have worked.

Let's try something else. In the GRUB menu select the entry to boot:
- type e twice
- at the end of the kernel line add -kvd
- press enter (NOT escape)
- type b

You will enter kmdb. At the kmdb prompt type:
:c

If a kernel panic occurs you should be returned at the kmdb prompt. At this 
stage type:
$C
