Hello everyone,

I have an interesting problem that I am absolutely stuck on and would
appreciate any help. The setup is a Dell 1950 III with a Dell SAS 6/iR
internal card and an Dell SAS 5/E controller connecting to a Dell MD3000. What
I am looking to do is have the MD3000 serve up each of its drives and have ZFS
do raidz across them all.

The issue I am having is every other virtual disk (the MD3000 does not have a
JBOD option so you have to create a bunch of RAID 0 single disk volumes that
the MD3000 calls a virtual disk) that the MD3000 creates does not get
recognized by OpenSolaris. OSOL sees the disk but cannot read the partition
table on them. Why this is so weird is that it is only on half of them, not all
of them. Here is the output from format:
    0. c7t0d0 <DEFAULT cyl 8750 alt 2 hd 255 sec 63>
          /pci at 0,0/pci8086,25e3 at 3/pci1028,1f10 at 0/sd at 0,0
       1. c11t6d0 <drive type unknown>
          /pci at 0,0/pci8086,25f9 at 6/pci8086,32c at 0/pci1028,1f04 at 8/sd
at 6,0
       2. c11t6d1 <DEFAULT cyl 60734 alt 2 hd 255 sec 63>
          /pci at 0,0/pci8086,25f9 at 6/pci8086,32c at 0/pci1028,1f04 at 8/sd
at 6,1
       3. c11t6d2 <drive type unknown>
          /pci at 0,0/pci8086,25f9 at 6/pci8086,32c at 0/pci1028,1f04 at 8/sd
at 6,2
       4. c11t6d3 <DEFAULT cyl 60734 alt 2 hd 255 sec 63>
          /pci at 0,0/pci8086,25f9 at 6/pci8086,32c at 0/pci1028,1f04 at 8/sd
at 6,3

Running fdisk -v -W - /dev/rdsk/c11t6d2p0 produces
Error in ioctl DKIOCGMBOOT: I/O error
fdisk: Error reading partition table from /dev/rdsk/c11t6d2p0.

It is not the physical drive because I have tried switching them around.

I have updated the MD3000 firmware to the latest, updated OSOL from svn_111b to
dev svn_134. Hell I even updated the drive firmware just for fun, but the
behavior is always the same.

Any help would be great!

Thanks.
