Thanks for the suggestion. I am not sure what is going on but it appears to have something to do with the "Secure by Default" option that is not suppose to affect a upgrade. If you choose no to turn on the security when doing the upgrade none of these graphical programs work. If you choose yes to disable this option all of these graphical programs work with out a problem. This has been tested a few times and the problem has been reproduced. I am not sure if anyone can shed more light on this. I plan on opening case up with Sun and see what they say.

I've seen some programs before now that were well behaved in "C" locale but barfed badly in other locales (I tend to like to use en_US.ISO8859-15 myself, since en_US.UTF-8 can be a bit annoying when one doesn't actually need Unicode support).
