Greetings,

Thanks to all for the ideas thus far but still no success. I forgot to mention
in the original post that the
video adapter is an EVGA AGP NVIDIA GeForce 6800GT / 256mb and while the hard
disk is SATA, the CD/DVD RW is via EIDE. It's made by NEC. The nomenclature
escapes me at the moment. Also have a 3.5" floppy disk drive that has slots
for compact flash and SD media via a separate USB connector. Everything has
worked flawlessly with the 11/'06 release of Solaris 10 as well as the release
prior to that.

The keyboard and mouse are PS/2 and removing the SCSI adapter doesn't help any.
I've tried lowering/raising the keyboard controller clock settings in CMOS to
no avail. I've also tried disconnecting the CD/DVD, floppy drive (and it's USB
cousins) without success. I've disabled ATA DMA for both CD and HD by booting
to the installation DVD, mounting the HD under /a and manually editing
/boot/solaris/bootenv.rc.

I'll have to study up on GRUB. I've been accustomed to Sun's bootloader (been
a Solaris user since Solaris 7) but any tips/tricks/hints/experiences will be
more than welcome in the mean-time.

Again, many thanks to all!

Kind regards
