(Adding install community.)

The "common" laptop from Solaris engineering is a Ferrari 3200/3400,
but we're actively getting a wider variety to help with
exactly situations like this.

I recently (within the last month) installed a Solaris Express
build (the Developer Edition from 02/07, aka 55b, I think), on
a Thinkpad x60 from an external USB-attached DVD.

Not sure what to make of the hang...if you're sure that
you got a good burn on the DVD.

Hi all,
as a Java addicted man, tired of Linux dummies, I'd like to install Solaris Express on my Laptop (acer ferrari 1000)... Someone told me that Sun developpers had these laptops but I have some doubts.. It seems that this solaris is shipped with an old/buggy version of grub which doesn't support booting on external USB devices (CD-ROM)... Acer dvd-rom is a firewire 1394 so not usable for booting.. I don't see how to manage to run the install..So any help welcome... I 've succeeded in running this installation on a desktop machine after retrieving an old internal DVD reader ... Can't reproduce this with my laptop..

In my current configuration grub just hangs a few seconds after booting... (tryied with all distributions available benelix/nexenta/solaris express..)

My BIOS is up to date (revision 10) no later revision available on acer website...

Cheers
Jerome
PS:
very frustated by this situation
