Are you installing Solaris Express from Sun's downloads area or Open Solaris as linked to through the Open Solaris site? IIRC, Solaris Express is around build 57, and Open Solaris is around build 63. In some cases, moving from one to the other may take care of hardware issues.

Hi again. I must correct the previous post. Experimentation showed that it not the sound card the problem but something different, i.e. the boot process hangs randomly when loading a device. It can be the mouse, the network card, USB or something else I could not identify. There seems to be no reason for this behaviour and in no way I was able to figure out why sometimes this happens with a device or with another.
