In order to speed up the boot process and enable the ehci interface, I followed the instructions in the ehci man page for the workaround for VIA chipsets and updated the driver (using vendor 1106 and device 3104). After reboot, the controller is unusable messages still persist and there is no applying VIA workarounds message.
