SXDE does not have a text mode installer. Fortunately the disk contains other
options that do.

The SXDE DVD includes 4 boot options:

Solaris Express Developer Edition
Solaris Express
+ 2 for using a serial console

You want to choose "Solaris Express". This will install Solaris Express
Community Edition, which is Developer Edition minus the developer tools. Once
you have completed the Solaris Express Community Edition installation, simply
run the install script in the DeveloperTools DVD, which by default will be
located at:

/media/SOL_11_X86/DeveloperTools/install_devtools.sh

Once you run this, you will have exactly the same software installed as if you
had chosen to install SXDE instead of SXCE. The one difference is that you will
not be running NWAM - Network AutoMagic (see
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/nwam/). This is usually a good thing,
since the installer will prompt you to choose between using a static IP address
or DHCP on your network interfaces, whereas SXDE uses DHCP and does not give
you any choice.

Cheers

Andrew.
