I am also a Solaris noob, but you might want to check for errors and collisions
on the switch or network adapter. Running any of the OpenSolaris builds or
Nevada builds with my LOM Intel Pro/1000 MT nics I had 5% packet errors. That
significantly effected the speed. Rolling back to Solaris 10u5 fixed the
problem, also switching to a different NIC solved the problem. I just thought
I'd throw it out as something to check.
