OK.

i) Is there an easy way to set the preferred authority to http://pkg.opensolaris.org/release? ii) Is there a simple command I could run to check for any installed package updates with that new authority?

Thanks,

OK, something is definitely "unique" with your system. There should be an /etc/release file to indicate the level of software that is installed. Also, the URL for the preferred authority should be http://pkg.opensolaris.org/release.

Here it is, I just tried again:

pfexec pkg install pkg:/sunstudio1...@12.1-0.101
Creating Plan |
pkg: the following package(s) violated constraints:
Package pkg:/sunwj6...@0.5.11,5.11-0.111 conflicts with constraint in installed pkg:/entire: Pkg SUNWj6dmo: Optional min_version: 0.5.11,5.11-0.101 max version: 0.5.11,5.11-0.101 defined by: pkg:/entire

I have tried your other commands too:

~$ head -1 /etc/release
/etc/release: No such file or directory
~$ pfexec pkg authority
AUTHORITY URL
hudson http://pkg.hudson-ci.org/
opensolaris.org (preferred) http://pkg.opensolaris.org:80/

I have contacted the sysadmin who installed that server (I am not an expert), but I have not received an answer yet.

Thanks,

Can you show your whole command line? You used "101" instead of "111"? I just verified that it works:

~$ head -1 /etc/release
                     OpenSolaris 2008.11 snv_101a_rc1.5 X86
~$ pfexec pkg authority
AUTHORITY URL
opensolaris.org (preferred) http://pkg.opensolaris.org/release/
~$ pfexec pkg install pkg:/sunstudio1...@12.1-0.101
PHASE ITEMS
Indexing Packages 554/554
DOWNLOAD PKGS FILES XFER (MB) sunstudio12u1 0/13 450/10647 5.81/308.55

But please feel free to upgrade to 2009.06 if you would like to go that route!

Hi Alan,

Just tried it, but I still get:

Creating Plan /
pkg: the following package(s) violated constraints:
Package pkg:/sunwj6...@0.5.11,5.11-0.111 conflicts with constraint in installed pkg:/entire: Pkg SUNWj6dmo: Optional min_version: 0.5.11,5.11-0.101 max version: 0.5.11,5.11-0.101 defined by: pkg:/entire

I received other information about making our system up-to-date. I am checking this with the sysadmin who installed it. I am no expert.

Thanks,

J. (AdamMan71)

You must be running 2008.11. Substitute 111 with 101:

pfexec pkg install pkg:/sunstudio1...@12.1-0.101

Try a more qualified string like this if you are running 2009.06

  pfexec pkg install pkg:/sunstudio1...@12.1-0.111

Hi,
I am trying to install sunstudio12u1 using:

pfexec pkg install sunstudio12u1

But I get:

Creating Plan -
pkg: the following package(s) violated constraints:
Package pkg:/sunwj6...@0.5.11,5.11-0.111 conflicts with constraint in installed pkg:/entire: Pkg SUNWj6dmo: Optional min_version: 0.5.11,5.11-0.101 max version: 0.5.11,5.11-0.101 defined by: pkg:/entire

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks,

JVerstry
