I did an install (full install of 2009.06 from http://dlc.sun.com/osol/opensolaris/2009/06/osol-0906-x86.iso) to an 8GB USB thumb drive. It works great on the system I installed it on, however, I've tried it on two other computers and it doesn't work on either. It hangs on both systems right after GRUB. On one of the systems, it reboots by itself after a short while, on the other one it just hangs. I've tried hitting escape to bypass the splash screen but am unable to.
1. Should I expect that an install to a USB drive can be moved between computers? Is it sufficiently portable that it doesn't care which computer I boot it from and I'm just having a run of bad luck? Does OpenSolaris install all of the drivers, or just the drivers for the install-system? 2. Is there something I can change in one of the GRUB lines to stop the display of the splash screen and/or print out additional information on the console that would give me a clue why this is happening? Detail: Installed and works on Dell Optiplex GX520. Doesn't work on a home built ASUS P4P800-E. Doesn't work on a Macbook with http://refit.sourceforge.net/.
