Hi Tom,
You're entire rpool includes components that are part of the boot
environment, so restoring a boot environment to another boot environment
doesn't really make sense.
Specifically, what are you trying to protect? I would take a snapshot of
that data and then back it up (zfs send). Then you can rollback. If the
rollback doesn't work as you had hoped, restore the backup (zfs receive).
