The mainboard has 6 audio connectors at the back; I tried to connect the
speaker to 4 of them.  I've not tried to connect the speakers to the ports
that are in use by a microphone or the line-in port.  No sound on any
of these four output ports.


Wait a minute, the box also has a front panel audio module...
Maybe we have sound on the front panel module?

Indeed, on the headphone connector on the front panel connector
there is sound (though with a very low volume).
