I'm using HP dv4 1413TX laptop and have the similar problem with
defect.o.o bug 9308. A loud white-noise is emitted during the b117
installation. After the installation is finished and reboot, the noise
is still there.

The boomer rc3 binary attached in bug 9308 does fix the noise sound
problem. But the sound still doesn't work properly. The beep sound
does work But when I tried to play certain media files (mp3 for
example) with Songbird, it doesn't work, no sound at all. One thing to
note is that this should not be related to Songbird as gst-launch
gives me the similar output (no sound).

The test just hanged there with noise coming out from the speaker.
Tried with 2009.06 release, b117 and b118. All have the noise during
the installation. But b118 doesn't work well with this HP laptop due
to http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6858297.
Any hints for the problem. Is there any other boomer binary version
that I can try with?
BTW, not sure what's wrong with my defect account. I can't add comment
to the bug.
