The release of OpenSSL 0.9.6a beta3 and the true release have been delayed. The reason for the delay is mainly due to the following paper and the need to add a fix for the problem it describes: http://crypto.stanford.edu/~dabo/abstracts/faults.html The problem is now fixed in the current source tree. At the same time, we're trying to solve the last small known problem (the reported clash with des_encrypt() on some systems), to make sure that beta 3 has a fair chance of becoming the actual release.
