I do not understand the code.

in ssl/s2_clnt.c and ssl/s2_svr.c an additional padding format is
used that is implemented in the RSA functions. I have read through
the V2 and V3 standard and both say that RSA encryption is to be used
according to the PKCS#1 specification.

What is the purpose of this special padding format? Looking at the
rsa a source it looks like an evil hack anyway.

It makes my live a _LOT_ harder, trying to implement PKCS#11 support.
(and solidifying a new EVP-API in the process)
