Just spoke to a friend of mine. He says ls and ksh work just fine on
HP-UX. One can easily guess that login works as well then, right? :-):-)

In either case after I started to read the error message posted to the
list another day, he said "Yeah, yeah! I know..." without even listening
to the end. Point is that even on high-end HP workstations/servers
default maximum of memory you can address is as low as 64MB and the
value (maxdsiz) has to be tuned up whenever you feel like running
anything larger (it's virtual address space we're talking about, not
even resident set) than this. Why does just link phase is such a memory
pig and what the hell is ucomp he had no idea about. So that the answer
to the last question about HP-UX posed by Sheron Lowe (I again don't
have the original left and it's only the real name and no e-mail address
archived at www.mail-archive.com:-() is obviously to follow the advice
to "try increasing ... the maxdsiz kernel parameter (8203)"
