This is not quite openssl related, but since I'll probably borrow code from it, here it goes... I'm planning to write a disk-level or partition-level encryption routine. I worry about known-plaintext attacks (encrypting every 512-byte block with RC4 and a fixed init state is probably not smart). In your opinion which is the best symmetric algorithm I can use, considering security and performance?
