Plain text is fine, that's also what is currently used for most of the
stuff in openssl/doc.
The default path for the config file (note that the file is called
"openssl.cnf" not "openssl.conf") is:
| from the default openssl.cnf (installed in /usr/local/ssl or the
| openssldir specified during configuration)
