patch & Dr. Stephen Henson's upload

I've been trying to run patch to split out the files Dr. Stephen Henson uploaded to 
the list.  I've tried a few things but I'm unfamiliar 
with diff and patch and it isn't working.

If someone will be so kind as to shed light on how the revisions are handled I'd be 
very greatful.
