well, despite the CHANGES file not mentioning the fix, the 000711
snapshot doesn't exhibit the problem (and compiles and links fine).

well, i hope the huge list of new features doesn't destablize the
program as to make it unfit for my CA purposes... but `make test` left a
good impression. :-)
