Well, there is no (apparent) change in functionality, nor any change in
the sense of API or ABI compatibility. The only essential change is that a
race condition existed in establishing a key's montgomery cruft and now it
has been locked down.

I understand your reservations - I'd have them myself too in general. This
change is not a typo but fixing a problem that is a bit deeper (and harder
to reproduce, etc). However, it was an actual bug (and one spotted by a
user) - and with Bodo's change(s), it appears to have been fixed - so on
those grounds I think it should've gone into the stable branch.
