Hmm, hmm. I actually didn't look into this issue personally (Richard Levitte handled it) and I only pointed out the state-as-is. Your point makes complete sense: as long as the des_* functions are in the library, the linker might take them. So actually it should be macros replacing the des_* calls with DES_* calls... But I am tired now, maybe not seeing the forest because there are so many trees around :-), so I will crosspost this issue to openssl-dev...
