I think this root certificate is important enough to be distributed with the openssl sources:
http://www.instantssl.com/ssl-certificate-support/cert_installation/GTECyberTrustGlobalRoot2018.crt Pine wouldn't open an SSL connection to my mail server because it couldn't find this certificate. Mozilla/thunderbird have no such problems because the certificate is included with their own source code.
