I've been seeing all sorts of CA-related glitches.  Basically
when they (you) started tweaking things for the OpenCA project
the CA.pl and related 'tools' (I mean the term generously) they
started to get weird.  I think the default openssl.cnf
has also got issues for non-selfsigned certs.

Yeah, that's not a precise comment.   But I've been encouraged
to mention it onlist...
