Does anybody have [good] AMD contact? The question is if AMD can tell what are latency/throughput metrics for their AESNI instructions. The background is that Intel has announced that they have improved AESNI throughput in upcoming Sandy Bridge, which means that OpenSSL AESNI module would require adaptation (see crypto/aes/asm/aesni-x86.pl for background information). Since it has to be done, idea is to try to spare the effort and figure out if there is a common denominator that can be used to provide optimal/adequate all-round performance for *both* AMD and Intel.
