One of the biggest concerns is portability. OpenSSL runs on all manner of
weird systems and apparently harmless changes can break something.

These systems don't get tested very often so the first we hear about it is
after an official release. That's one reason why new features aren't added to
stable releases any more.

IPv6 has had problems in the past. That's one reason why the auto detection of
IPv6 support can be overridden by the configure script: some platforms appear
to support IPv6 but have broken implementations which choke the compiler.
