   According to the comments, "(As this was written, the compiler ECO
was available only on IA64.)"  If it's since become available on Alpha,
then it's news to me.  As a lowly hobbyist, I'm waiting for any
convenient access to patches and products from HP, and I expect that
waiting to continue more or less indefinitely.  Around here, the tests
failed on Alpha, hence my investigation, hence the work-around.  If the
world is now a better place, then I welcome the news.  But I have no
evidence for that.  The compiler on my Alpha systems still says "HP C
V7.3-009 on OpenVMS Alpha V8.3", and still has the defect.  I suspect
that I'm not alone.  (But what do I know?)
