Could it be that the ENGINES variable in the top level Makefile is empty? On my Solaris Sparc system it is ENGINES=engines/capi.so engines/dasync.so engines/ossltest.so engines/padlock.so (line 24) To debug, you might look for the line starting with install_engines: and then change the @set -e; ... a few lines down into @set -ex; ... (add the "x") and run "make install" again.
