This is advice from one team member, hope it helps. My personal opinion, don’t take it as gospel.
I don’t know if we have any interest in supporting WEC7, it would depend on how big the changes are – the fewer the better -- and if anyone on the team has a particular interest (and can run the OS). We now try to avoid platforms that we can’t actually test ourselves. Do things as pull request(s) on github. You might find https://www.openssl.org/community/getting-started.html useful and/or interesting.
