Want to create "strong" certificates for e-mail exchange with Outlook
Express 6.0 SP1. Using OpenSSL 0.9.7, dos port, downloaded the binary. I
don't have a compiler...

I'm able to create the root cert, and the user certs. However Outlook
Express shows a message that a 40 bit RC2 encryption is used, while it can
handle 168 bit cets.

Help would be VERY welcome, I spend countless hours in figuring out how to
get this to work and I feel a little frustrated. I must be so close, yet it
seems so far away :-(

Peter.

Here are the batch files that I use:

For the Root Cert:
openssl req -out ca.pem -new -x509 -md5 -config openssl.cnf -rand
random.bin -days 7300
openssl crl2pkcs7 -nocrl -certfile ca.pem -out ca.p7b -inform PEM -outform
DER

For the Client Cert
openssl genrsa -des3 -out client.key 2048 -rand random.bin 2048
pause
openssl req -md5 -key client.key -new -out client.req -config openssl.cnf
pause
openssl x509 -req -in client.req -CA ca.pem -CAkey privkey.pem -CAserial
file.srl -out client.pem -days 365

To convert Client to .CER...
openssl pkcs12 -aes256 -export -in client.pem -inkey client.key -CAfile
ca.pem -name "client" -out client.pfx
