Thank you for your reply. I looked at that and it does not (at first glance) seem applicable to me. I had never heard of the Zimbra suite mentioned, but I rebuilt my openldap from src.rpm and that seems to have cured it's ills. I appreciate your insight into this, and hope this thread will help others avoid this pitfall.
