I should definitely try with those specific host/path/options.
However, it seems that the (supposedly) deprecated way does not
really work how it should, so I filed a bug report:

Thanks. Does seem, at a minimum, that the documentation needs to be
updated and that there may be some other bugs here. We will work this
through the bug.
