I think it would also be entirely reasonable to just not worry about it, and let the people who asked for extended maintenance on older branches do the legwork. We previously limited the number we'd keep open because keeping those older branches updatable does in fact require quite a bit of effort. When we agreed to the suggestion of not closing branches, it was with the understanding that they won't just suddenly get taken care of by the same people who were already not doing that because they considered it a lot of extra work. -- Jeremy Stanley
