I don't, however, see the need for a firm start date. Comparing this to the feature freeze development cycle, in Nova we started opening up the specs for the N+1 cycle early in cycle N so that people can propose a spec early instead of waiting months and potentially missing the next window. So how about letting candidates declare early in the cycle by adding their names to the election repo at any time during the cycle up to the firm deadline? This might also encourage candidates not to wait until the last minute. -- Ed Leafe
