Focus
-----

All teams should be wrapping up their work to prepare release
candidates for the end of Newton.

General Notes
-------------

The release candidate deadline for Newton releases is 15 Sept. All
projects following cycle-based release models that want to include
a deliverable in Newton should have a release prepared by 15 Sept.

We will create stable/newton branches for milestone-based projects
when the release candidate is tagged.

Release Actions
---------------

Be prepared to have a release candidate tagged by 15 Sept, but wait
as late as possible to include as many bug fixes and translations
as possible. This also avoids having a second release candidate
quickly after the first, and therefore indicating to consumers that
they may want to ignore those initial release candidates.

Projects not following the milestone-based release model who want
stable/newton branches created should include that information in
the commit message for their release request. Remember, we always
create stable branches from tagged commits, so we need the tag to
exist before we branch.

Review the members of your $project-release group in gerrit, based
on the instructions Thierry sent on 15 Aug to ensure there are team
members able to approve patches on the new branch when it is created.

Watch for translation patches and merge them quickly to ensure we
have as many user-facing strings translated as possible in the
release candidates.

Liaisons for projects with independent deliverables should import
the release history by preparing patches to openstack/releases.
