Is your rootfs on mmc ?
Do you have multiple mmc devices maybe?

You can also list files from the partitions 1/2/3 from mmc0 device, with:
  ls mmc 0:1
  ls mmc 0:2
  ls mmc 0:3

You may try latest openSUSE Tumbleweed image since u-boot has been updated to
version 2020.04 and lots of fpga patches landed in this version.
