Curious, I'm now running Xgl on this Thinkpad T60p (I've tried it
successfully with both KDE and Gnome).  For the KDE setup I followed
your instructions as modified by Stephen's suggestion (i.e., I created
the /opt/kde3/env entry) and it works great .. no kicker issues or anything.
