As you might know, i am allways trying new hardware with SuSE, (after first installing XP, and the firmware.(mobo-drivers) I look at the speed of windows, and get immediately annoyed by the endless updates.., the anti-spyware, virusscanner, firewall, because if you start with XP SP1, there is no firewall, and before you are able to install the protection, dataminers are allready mining.. :-( (With other words, it takes much much longer to install a 'complete' windows than a complete SuSE, and is less than half as enjoyable. ;-) (I did not try Vista, so i can not compare it..but don't let us spoil the fun!!) - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Than the real Fun begins: I format the disk, - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (to get rid of Windows, is allready feeling good..) I DO NOT WANT TO OFFEND ANYBODY. IT IS JUST MY OPINION, AND I AM ENTITLED TO HAVE AN OPINION, SO ALL OF YOU...: (restecp: Ali G in da House) - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- And then: Start fresh with SuSE... (feels just great to have no windows onboard!!!, finaly got rid of it :-) And installing SuSE is happily grinning...Real Fun. Very smooth, and beautifull from start to end, without firmware, working perfect, (hardware detection is realy allmost perfect...except 3D on onboard g-cards..) This is just great! (got a retail DVD as a gift for helping Debug a little, that just feels very good!) Inserting the DVD, and you're OK..> here we GO! You can configure just about everything you want!!! (tried LVM this time, very simple and cool..) When you are completely happy, you start to install... All pkgs you have choosen are visible while installing: great, love that! (it is not bad to have to install some codecs lateron...) Than fine-tuning the sys as far as possible, ...downloading some nice icons from paolinoland.it, a nice splash from Sean Parsons, some nice wallpapers for the 8 desktops, adjusting the window'dressing', and.....allright. I realy love it! I think if the way and time to update is worked out completely, it is the best Linux distro around... ( and i have tried and use(d) several..) from one, allmost satisfied user ;-) - -- Have a nice day, M9. Now, is the only time that exists.
