Which driver are you using?
I use ati-driver-installer-8.38.6-x86.x86_64.run. The video card is a
Radeon RX1550.
Works for me with radeon 9550 using 8.40 drivers + XGL + compiz fusion. Is
your problem the libGL.so.1 fix?

Google earth wont work with fglrx version of libGL.so.1.2 (hangs on splash
screen).
Just copy the Mesa version of libGL.so.1.2 into the folder where you
installed google earth, and rename it to libGL.so.1
To get the Mesa libGLso1.2, copy the Mesa rpm into an empty folder and run:
rpm2cpio Mesa<version>.rpm | cpio -idmv
It will be in the extracted usr/lib folder.
