While not specifically openSUSE perhaps you could find some
'assignments' via gnome-love?  <https://live.gnome.org/GnomeLove>  They
have lower-end / smaller jobs that might be applicable to a small team,
and there is generally some mentor-ish help available.

There are certainly many GNOME applications that would love to have a
small team to attack a plugin or some corner of an application.
