I guess, you should try adding the line

blacklist matrox_wl

to the file "/etc/modprobe.d/50-blacklist.conf" (or, better, to your own file 
in "/etc/modprobe.d", e.g. "50-myblacklist.conf" so that it did not disappear 
after some update).
