Unfortunately, and as often, documentation is certainly what smart lacks most
at the moment.
This will definately be addresses, but smart is currently in development stage,
so features and
bugfixes come first, documentation comes last.
If anyone wants to volunteer for writing documentation about it, I'm sure
Gustavo Niemeyer would be
reaaaally happy ;-)

"smart config --show" doesn't show the default settings, that are in the source
code.
Indeed, that would help as well, at least you can almost always make yourself
an idea of what an
option is for when seeing the name.

I mostly got that information from the source code (which is in Python).

Good :)

That's a good question.
I don't think that's currently included, but a rather simple shell script
should do the trick, as
the apt.sources information is to be passed "as-is" to "smart channel --add",
but with a slightly
different format. Some smart data is missing though, such as the channel alias
and description.
I don't know whether smart can import an apt-rpm sources.list as-is.
I'll ask the author on the next occasion (probably this evening).

I quickly hacked a small shell script that should do the trick (just did
minimal testing):
