Unlikely, but it happens.  WTC is one example.  New Orleans is another. 
Whole buildings and even whole neighborhoods *do* get wiped out by
fires, floods, tornados, you name it.  Having backups geographically
somewhere else can mean the difference between a business being able to
continue or being wiped out entirely.
