Did that also. It selects the ca0106 driver also, and reports no
problems.
It's very frustrating that openSUSE finds the proper module and reports
no problems, but can't make a sound. I wish I could figure out how
Kubuntu does it.
I wonder.. have you bumped into the problem/bug with hal-resmgr that
pops up from time to time where $USER doesn't get ACL rights to the
sound card?
Try this as an experiment... add the Audio group to your userid and
see if you have sound. If nothing changes, then reverse the group
change. If you have sound after this.... then you have found the
problem which is probably related to this bug report...
