Isn't that a BIOS function on most mainboards? Did you look in your BIOS 
settings?

Personally, I'd be reluctant to second-guess AMD, Intel or the mainboard 
vendor on this matter (unless it was to lower the threshold).

Yeah, I was looking to have the fan kick on at a lower temp. I remember
reading - a long time ago - about laptops that, when running linux, the fan
stayed permanently on. I thought there was some way to remedy this by editing
some file that deals with acpi or something...
