But doesn't this sort of defeat the purpose of bottom posting? In
effect, when we're trimming, we're creating a new thread. If the
purpose of bottom posting is to give readers a chance to catch up on the
conversation as a whole if they've stepped in late in the game, then
they've missed the topic in its entirety when we clip.
The purpose of bottom_posting_with_trimming is to leave the least amount
from the previous email in the email you are writing. It is a waste of
"paper" to remail what we all already have in our mail box. If we need to
read more context, we just pick the previous email on the thread and read
it.
Not to mention, clearly the topic of this conversation is now different
from the original topic of this conversation. How are we supposed to
handle that? Retitle the subject?
Yep, we sometimes do that :-)
However, a good mail program will still show where the new message should
be:
